BURKINA FASO: Locomotives of the World 10.11.1998

Click to enlargeAnother stamp depicting a diesel engine of the class Di.3. The stamp shows No. 3.641, here heading container wagons from the company "Tollpost-Globe". But note that the desert sand in the foreground is a rather strange element in a Norwegian connection. This engine is one of three locomotives of the subclass Di.3b built by NOHAB during 1958-59. The same (or at least similar) engine is also to be seen on stamps from Malagasy and Niger. 3.641 was built in 1959 (factory No. 2416) for the Finnish state railways, which later cancelled the order. It was then hired out to NSB, and thereafter purchased in 1960. It is stationed in Trondheim railway district. This stamp is one of eight stamps in a sheet showing locomotives from different countries.
