Norwegian Women on Stamps
|HANNA WINSNES (1789-1872)
Another Norwegian author, although not so well known abroad. She was the mother of seven,
married to a vicar.
According to the behaviour suitable for women of her time she chose the more traditional
way of writing. She became known for her cookery books and a children book, both still
familiar to most Norwegians. She also wrote entertainment novels, but secretly, under the
pseudonym Hugo Schwarz. As background on the stamp we can see extract from her food
recipes and poetic riddles.
