The
stamp shows a portrait and the signature of Engebret Soot
(1786-1859) adjacent to an early canal lock. Soot was an engineer
and technical designer and is mostly known as a builder of canals
and canal locks. In connection with one of his projects, the Soot
Canal, he also constructed a small horse-drawn railway, called the
"Grasmo Railway". This line was operational until 1938 between
Mortsjølungen and Tvillingtjern in eastern Norway.
