   NORWAY: International Stamp Exhibition 13.06.1980
Click to enlargeSteam locomotive with passenger carriage as it appeared at the turn of the century. The locomotive is No. 31, class 9a, delivered in 1879 to the Norwegian State Railways (NSB), a type developed by Beyer, Peacock & Co in Manchester. This machine, however, was built by the Swedish factory Nydqvist & Holm (NOHAB) in Trollhättan, and was, together with Nos. 29 and 30, bought to serve on the Eidsvold-Hamar line. NSB provided a total of 24 of these 2'B-2 (4-4-0) machines and they enjoyed a very long life because of their ability to haul fast trains (the speed limit was 65 km/h) where other classes were too heavy. The stamp is part of a souvenir sheet issued for Norwex 80.
