Steam
locomotive with passenger carriage as it appeared at the turn of the
century. The locomotive is No. 31, class 9a, delivered in 1879 to
the Norwegian State Railways (NSB),
a type developed by Beyer, Peacock & Co in Manchester. This machine,
however, was built by the Swedish factory Nydqvist & Holm (NOHAB) in
Trollhättan, and was, together with Nos. 29 and 30, bought to serve
on the Eidsvold-Hamar line. NSB provided a total of 24 of these
2'B-2 (4-4-0) machines and they enjoyed a very long life
because of their ability to haul fast trains (the speed limit was
65 km/h) where other classes were too heavy. The stamp is part of a
souvenir sheet issued
for Norwex 80.
