Norwegian Women on Stamps
|HEIDI SUNDAL (1962-)
This first stamp was issued in connection with the handball world championship for women
arranged in Oslo 1993. Here we can see
the Norwegian top player Heidi Sundal in an attack against Korea. Norway won the bronze
medal, as they also did in 1986, and Heidi Sundal was chosen as the best attack player in
this tournament. She has also
won 2 Olympic silver medals in 1988 and 1992 and in all played 274 international matches.
The international success of the woman handball team has inspired a lot of Norwegian young
girls to start playing handball. The second stamp is issued to emphasize the strong
position of woman team ball-sport in Norway. It is one of four stamps in a minisheet.
