QUEEN RAGNHILD (~800 A.D.)
"Queen Ragnhild's Dream" is an illustration from an ancient sagabook about
Norwegian kings made by Snorri Sturluson. She had a dream about a tree growing so big that
the branches spread all over the country and even longer. She was the daughter of a petty
king and became the second wife of King Halvdan Svarte, a king in eastern Norway in the
9th century. Their first son, named Harald, later called "the Fairhaired",
became the first, which succeeded to establish supremacy over all Norway, and made
a united
Norwegian kingdom. |
