SYNNØVE ANKER AURDAL (1908-2000)
This is a stamp from the set "Contemporary art". It
depicts a decorative tapestry named "Red moon"
created in 1968 by the Norwegian textiles artist Synnøve Anker
Aurdal. After first creating traditional tapestries she has
developed her own monumental style using materials as nylon, wire
and pearls of metal. Her works are mainly inspired by Old Norwegian
weaving but always made in a contemporary style of our time. The
tapestries of Aurdal are present in a big number of official and
commercial buildings all over Norway. In addition to the decoration
in Haakonshallen in Bergen her main work is "Space and
words" (2 x 7 m), a gift from Norway to the 11th centenary
celebration of the Icelandic nation . |
