Finnish Women on Stamps |
MARIA JOTUNI (1880-1943)
A stamp issued to the centenary of the birth of the author Maria Jotuni. She
is appreciated as novelist and playwright and is one of the classic Finnish feminist
writers. Her form was often short stories and dialogues in which she depicted the society,
everyday life, love and tragedy from a woman's point of view. An apt description of
people, intense dialogues without gestures together with pungent humour, characterize her
works. First she intended to be a teacher and started to study art history at the
university, but her writing took more and more of her time. She was married to a professor
of literature. |
